šŸ Have you heard of BumbleBee Breathing? šŸ

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

I just performed this breathing practice last week in my yoga class, and itā€™s a must share for those interested in healing, mindfulness and self-cultivation.

Bumble bee breathing is also known as, Bhramari Pranayama.

Bhramari Pranayama is Sanskrit, with Bhramari meaning ā€œBlack bumblebeeā€ and Pranayama meaning (prana) vital energy, and (yama) control.

This yogic breathing practice offers healing and mindfulness to those that practice it.

Hereā€™s what you do:

STEP 1: Find a comfortable position and close your eyes and relax your jaw.

STEP 2: Turn your focus to the region between your eyebrows or third eye chakra.

STEP 3: Take 1 normal breath, then on the next breath (make it a deep belly breath), exhale slowly through your nose with mouth closed and make a hum sound. For increased intensity press your tragus down to plug your ears.

This practice shifts us into a relaxed parasympathetic state and also a meditative state.

Bumblebee breathing has been shown in studies to improve:

Ā» Anxiety

Ā» Irritability

Ā» Stress

Ā» Hypertension

Ā» Depression

Ā» Insomnia

Ā» Helpful for those working through drug dependency

When we performed it as an entire yoga class our teacher was amazed by the tranquilness that developed in the room. I noticed a sense of peace to my heart and chest region.
