Why does the Thyroid Affect Our Hair?

Hair follicles have receptors that are influenced by thyroid hormone.

When the thyroid is out of balance our hair can be impacted on many levels.

In times when the thyroid is heathy our hair stays in its growth stage, keratin production for strength persists, hair shedding is shut down, and hair continues to be colored.

When the thyroid is out of balance we can see increased hair loss, weakness of the hair shaft, greying of hair, and reduced growth.

It has been well established that when the thyroid receives treatment grey hairs can return to their original color.

If someone is experiencing hair changes, a comprehensive thyroid analysis should be completed to determine if it has a role in this process.
